History of this Recipe
The original Mississippi Pot Roast recipe first gained popularity in the early 2000's, when a Mississippi woman named Robin Chapman was searching for a way to make her aunt's chuck roast recipe less spicy for her children. Robin's recipe included 5 simple ingredients: a chuck roast, a packet of au jus gravy mix, a packet of dry ranch seasoning mix, a stick of butter, and pepperoncini peppers. Today, you will see Copycat recipes all over the internet. Most of these recipes don't include the full stick of butter, and many don't feature enough water to keep the roast moist. When you make pot roast frequently, you know the importance of including enough liquid to ensure that the roast doesn't dry out. It's critical to monitor pot roast after it has been in the oven for about two hours. Check that water line to be sure it doesn't fall below two inches.
